THIS WEEK’S JOURNAL
Most people think their reputation is built by what they say about themselves.
|
|
It isn’t.
It’s built by what other people say after you leave the room.
|
| |
|
Every Interaction Is a Deposit
The way you answer a question.
The way you handle a problem.
The way you follow through when nobody is watching.
The way you treat someone who can’t do anything for you.
Those moments seem small. They’re not.
|
|
|
I’ve spent more than 20 years around high-performing professionals, and there’s a pattern I’ve noticed:
The people with the strongest reputations aren’t constantly trying to build their brand. They’re consistently building trust.
✅ They do what they said they would do.
✅ They make introductions without keeping score.
✅ They give credit away.
✅ And when something goes wrong, they don’t disappear.
|
Three Reputation Deposits
|
|
1. Do the small thing exceptionally well.
A quick response. A thoughtful introduction. A promise kept. Small moments compound.
2. Be the same person everywhere.
Your clients shouldn’t get one version of you while your team gets another.
3. Make people feel bigger after meeting you.
Give people confidence. Give them clarity. Give them something useful they didn’t have before.
That’s leadership without a title.
|
|
✎ Steal This
❌ “I want people to know I’m really good at what I do.”
✅ “I want people to know they can count on me.”
One is about perception. The other is about reputation.
And reputation is earned.

YOUR TURN
What is one thing you want people to be able to say about you when you’re not in the room?
Hit reply and tell me — I read every one.
Keep chasing excellence.
